Why we don't have workout streaks

A consecutive-day streak counter is the most common feature in fitness apps. We deliberately removed it, and here is why.

What analyzing reviews showed

In an analysis of nearly fourteen thousand negative reviews of fitness apps, a broken streak proved to be one of the main sources of a negative experience. The phrasing repeats with alarming consistency: got sick, missed a day, counter reset, deleted the app.

Notice what people describe as the reason for leaving. Not the difficulty of workouts, nor a lack of results — losing a number.

Why the technique works in the first place

A streak exploits the unwillingness to lose what has already accumulated. It is a powerful lever, and for the first few weeks, it holds a person better than any motivation. The problem is that the lever breaks exactly once — and along with it, everything else breaks.

What we replaced it with

With the average number of workouts per week over the last month. The metric does not reset, reflects the real picture, and survives illness, business trips, and vacations. A missed week slightly lowers the average — and that's all.

The same rule applies to everything else

  • No achievement can be lost.
  • Level is not lost after a break: it marks the journey taken, not current shape.
  • Achievements are awarded for behavior, not appearance: no "lost five kilograms".
  • There will be no "before and after" photos.

This is not medical advice. If you have pain or a medical condition, a doctor decides your workout load, not an app — and we'll tell you directly when that's the case.
