Cable Woodchop

Cable Woodchop

Obliques, Core, Shoulders, GlutesCable machine (or band)

High-to-low diagonal rotational exercise targeting the obliques, core, and shoulders. Builds rotational power and dynamic trunk stability.

How to do it

1Stand side-facing to a high cable pulley and grab the handle with both hands overhead.
2Pivot your feet slightly toward the target path with soft knees and a tight core.
3Pull the handle diagonally down across your body to your opposite hip by rotating your torso.
4Keep your arms mostly straight, letting your core drive the movement.
5Control the handle back up to the starting position without snapping.

Common mistakes

Pulling only with your arms without rotating your torso.
Twisting solely from your lower back without pivoting your feet.
Letting the weight yank you back on the return phase.

Breathing

Exhale forcefully as you chop down; inhale as you return to the start.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, reduce the weight; to make it harder, add a hold at the bottom of the chop.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
