Weighted Decline Sit-Up

Weighted Decline Sit-Up

Abs, CoreIncline Bench, Plate, Dumbbell

A loaded core exercise designed to target the rectus abdominis and obliques. The decline angle increases range of motion and maintains constant tension, making it ideal for those who have mastered basic floor crunches.

How to do it

1Sit on a decline bench, anchor your feet securely under the pads, and hug a weight plate tightly to your chest.
2Slowly lower your torso back, tucking your chin and rounding your lower back until your upper back almost touches the bench.
3Flex your abs and curl your torso up, bringing your ribs down toward your hips.
4Avoid coming up into a completely flat posture at the top to keep constant tension on your abs.
5Smoothly lower yourself back down, vertebra by vertebra, controlling the weight throughout.

Common mistakes

Rising with a flat back using your hip flexors, which overloads your lumbar spine.
Jerking your head or shoulders at the start of the rep, taking tension off your abs and straining your neck.
Lowering too far with an arched lower back, creating dangerous spinal hyperextension.

Breathing

Inhale as you lower your torso back and exhale forcefully as you crunch up.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
