Wall Lateral Raise
ShouldersWall
A lateral raise variation using a wall to keep your posture honest. The wall eliminates momentum and swinging, forcing strict technique so you can build your side delts safely.
How to do it
1Stand with your back or side against a wall, making light contact to monitor your form.
2Let your arms hang at your sides with a soft bend in your elbows.
3Raise your arms smoothly out to the sides up to shoulder height, tracking along the wall.
4Pause briefly at the top without letting your shoulders shrug up.
5Slowly lower your arms back down to your sides.
Common mistakes
Raising your arms above shoulder level, which can pinch the shoulder joint.
Coming off the wall and swinging your body to momentum the weight up.
Shrugging your shoulders toward your ears, straining your neck instead of working your delts.
Breathing
Exhale as you raise your arms out to the sides. Inhale as you lower them down under control.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, perform the movement one arm at a time.
To make it harder, add a two-second hold at the top of each rep.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
