Waiter's Carry
Shoulders, Traps, Rotator Cuff, CoreDumbbell or Kettlebell
An overhead single-arm carry that builds shoulder stability, upper back strength, and core stability under moderate spinal load.
How to do it
1Press a dumbbell or kettlebell directly overhead with your elbow fully locked out.
2Pull your shoulder blade down away from your ear to pack the shoulder joint.
3Brace your core, keeping your pelvis and spine in a neutral position.
4Take slow, deliberate steps forward while keeping your torso upright.
5Walk the prescribed distance, lower the weight safely, and repeat on the other side.
Common mistakes
Arching your lower back as you walk, taking work away from your core.
Bending the working elbow, which fatigues the arm quickly and compromises control.
Leaning your torso to the side to compensate for the weight, reducing stabilizer activation.
Breathing
Breathe smoothly, deeply, and rhythmically throughout the walk.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, drop the weight or shorten the walk distance. To make it harder, hold a kettlebell bottom-up to challenge your grip and balance.
