TRX Overhead Back Extension

TRX Overhead Back Extension

Lower back, Glutes, Rear deltsTRX Suspension Trainer

The TRX overhead back extension targets the spinal erectors, glutes, and rear delts. It reinforces the posterior chain with minimal spinal loading while teaching proper pelvic and core control.

How to do it

1Face the anchor point with arms extended straight overhead holding the handles.
2Walk back until the straps are taut and lean forward slightly, keeping a straight body.
3Hinge at the hips, pushing your tailbone back while lowering your torso with straight arms overhead.
4Lower until you feel a comfortable stretch in your hamstrings without rounding your back.
5Drive your hips forward and squeeze your glutes and back to return upright.

Common mistakes

Hyperextending the lower back at the top, shifting tension off the glutes into the lumbar spine.
Bending the elbows during the hinge, disengaging the upper back and shoulders.
Allowing slack in the TRX straps, losing balance and movement control.

Breathing

Inhale as you hinge at the hips and lower down. Exhale as you extend your hips to stand tall.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, reduce the range of motion. To make it harder, step closer to the anchor or add a pause at the bottom of the hinge.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
