TRX Back Extension
Lower Back, GlutesTRX Suspension Trainer
A bodyweight back exercise using TRX straps to strengthen your erector spinae and glutes. It builds posterior chain control with minimal axial spinal loading.
How to do it
1Grab the TRX handles, face the anchor point, and lean back with a straight body.
2Hinge at your hips and lower your torso forward while maintaining a neutral spine.
3Engage your glutes and lower back muscles to extend your torso back into alignment with your legs.
4Squeeze your shoulder blades and lift your arms slightly higher at the top to lock it in.
5Lower yourself back down smoothly into the hip hinge position.
Common mistakes
Hyperextending your lower back at the top — jams your lumbar spine.
Pulling with your arms and biceps — steals work from your back and glutes.
Craning your neck backward — breaks neutral cervical alignment.
Breathing
Inhale as you hinge forward at the hips; exhale as you extend up into full alignment.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, step closer to the anchor point or use a staggered stance.
To make it harder, step farther away from the anchor point to increase the body angle.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
