Cable Triceps Pushdown

Cable Triceps Pushdown

TricepsCable Machine

A standing cable isolation exercise for the triceps. Keeps your torso fixed while you target the triceps with direct tension. Simple to master and great for any fitness level.

How to do it

1Stand facing the high pulley, grab the handle with an overhand grip, and lean slightly forward at your hips.
2Pin your elbows to your sides and lock them in place.
3Exhale and extend your arms straight down until your elbows fully lock out.
4Pause briefly at the bottom, squeezing your triceps hard.
5Inhale and slowly bend your arms back to about 90 degrees under control.

Common mistakes

Letting your elbows drift forward and back, which recruits your back and shoulders instead of your triceps.
Leaning too far over the handle and using body momentum, taking tension off the target muscle.
Flaring your elbows out or letting them rise at the top, losing tension and straining your joints.

Breathing

Exhale as you push the handle down to full lockout. Inhale as you control the handle back up.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, take a small step back from the cable stack and lower the weight.
To make it harder, use a rope attachment and spread the ends apart at full extension.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
