Trap Bar Farmer's Walk

Trap Bar Farmer's Walk

Full BodyTrap Bar

The trap bar farmer's walk taxes your whole body, building grip strength, leg drive, upper back, and core stability. It is a foundational movement for overall stamina and postural control.

How to do it

1Step inside the trap bar, hinge down into a half-squat with a flat back, and grab the handles.
2Stand up by driving through your legs, keeping your shoulders back and chest open.
3Walk forward taking even, controlled steps while keeping your torso upright.
4Keep your eyes fixed straight ahead and prevent the bar from swinging.
5Stop and lower the weight under control by bending at your knees and hips.

Common mistakes

Slouching and rounding shoulders — overloads the upper back and neck.
Rushing with erratic steps — leads to loss of control and bar swing.
Rounding the lower back when picking up or setting down the bar — increases back injury risk.

Breathing

Breathe deeply and rhythmically, keeping a moderate core brace throughout the walk.

Make it harder or easier

To regress, drop the weight and shorten the distance; to progress, load more weight or increase time under tension.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
