Svend Press (plates/dumbbells)
ChestPlates/Dumbbells
An isolation movement targeting the inner chest both statically and dynamically. Performed standing, it creates constant pectoral tension by pressing weight plates or dumbbells together in front of you. Joint-friendly and great as a chest finisher.
How to do it
1Stand tall with feet shoulder-width apart, clamping one or two weight plates tightly between your palms at chest height.
2Squeeze your hands together forcefully to get a maximum chest contraction.
3Maintaining constant inward pressure, slowly extend your arms straight out in front of you at shoulder height.
4Hold the extended position for one to two seconds while continuing to crush the plates together.
5Control the weight back to your chest without releasing the inward palm pressure.
Common mistakes
Easing off palm pressure during the reach, which turns off pectoral engagement.
Shrugging shoulders up toward your ears, shifting tension from the chest to the upper neck and traps.
Rounding your upper back or leaning forward, ruining posture and lowering movement control.
Breathing
Inhale at the start position at your chest. Exhale as you smoothly press the weight forward, squeezing harder.
