Standing Forward and Back Leg Swings

Standing Forward and Back Leg Swings

Hip Flexors, Glutes, HamstringsWall or Chair Support

A dynamic hip mobility drill that warms up the hips, hamstrings, quads, and glutes. Great before workouts or during work breaks to release lower-body tightness while staying balanced using a support.

How to do it

1Stand sideways to a wall or chair and lightly hold on with your inside hand for balance.
2Shift your weight to your standing leg, keeping a soft bend in the knee.
3Swing your outside leg smoothly backward and forward through a comfortable range of motion.
4Keep your torso steady without arching your lower back as the leg swings behind you.
5Complete your reps, then turn around and switch legs.

Common mistakes

Arching your lower back as your leg swings back, stressing your lumbar spine.
Jerking or flinging your leg aggressively instead of controlling the swing.
Locking out the standing knee, compromising balance and overloading the joint.

Breathing

Breathe naturally, inhaling as your leg swings back and exhaling as it swings forward.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, reduce the swing height and slow down the tempo.
To make it harder, use just a fingertip balance or add light ankle weights.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
