Standing Knee Flexion
HamstringsWall or Chair Support
A standing hamstring curl using external support for stability. Isolates the back of your thigh without requiring heavy gym kit.
How to do it
1Stand facing a wall or chair and lightly place your hands on it for balance.
2Stand tall, keep a soft bend in your supporting knee, and align both thighs.
3Exhale and smoothly bend your working leg at the knee, drawing your heel toward your glute.
4Pause briefly at the top to feel the hamstring contract.
5Inhale and slowly lower your foot back to the floor under control.
Common mistakes
Swinging your working thigh forward as you curl, taking load off the hamstring.
Swaying your upper body or arching your lower back to lift the leg.
Locking out your standing knee, which reduces balance and stability.
Breathing
Exhale as you curl your leg, and inhale as you lower it back down.
Make it harder or easier
To simplify, support yourself with both hands on the wall.
To progress, hold the top squeezed position for 3–4 seconds.
