Standing Calf Raise

Standing Calf Raise

CalvesStanding Calf Raise

The standing calf raise machine isolates the calves. Standing loads your spine, so brace your core and keep tight control over your posture.

How to do it

1Set the shoulder pads and place the balls of your feet on the edge of the platform.
2Stand tall and keep a soft bend in your knees without locking them out.
3Lower your heels under control until you feel a comfortable stretch in your calves.
4Drive through the balls of your feet to press up as high as possible.

Common mistakes

Bending your knees as you press, shifting load off the calves.
Arching your lower back under weight, putting excess pressure on your spine.
Bouncing rapidly at the bottom instead of controlling the stretch.

Breathing

Exhale as you press up, inhale as you lower down.

Make it harder or easier

Lighten the weight to make it easier, or perform the movement single-legged to make it harder.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
