Standing Cable Crunch

Abs, ObliquesCable, Rope Attachment

A standing cable exercise that isolates the rectus abdominis with adjustable resistance. It focuses on flexing the spine purely through ab contraction.

How to do it

1Face toward or away from the cable stack, hold the rope attachment next to your ears.
2Softly bend your knees and lock your hips firmly in place.
3Initiate the crunch by pulling your ribs down toward your pelvis using your abs.
4Pause at the bottom of the movement, squeezing your abs tight.
5Slowly return to the start position while maintaining control over the weight.

Common mistakes

Pulling the rope with your arms instead of flexing your spine with your abs.
Hinging at the hips and pushing your glutes back, transferring work to the legs.
Over-arching your lower back at the top, placing excess strain on the spine.

Breathing

Exhale as you crunch down, and inhale as you return to the start position.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, lower the weight; to make it harder, hold the peak contraction for two seconds.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
