Standing Cable Hip Abduction
GlutesLow Cable Machine
Cable hip abduction isolating the glute medius with minimal axial spine load. Strengthens the outer thigh and improves single-leg balance.
How to do it
1Attach an ankle cuff to a low cable pulley and stand sideways to the machine.
2Hold the machine frame for support and keep a soft bend in your standing leg.
3Smoothly sweep your working leg out to the side while keeping your torso still.
4Raise the leg to a comfortable height, squeezing your outer glute.
5Slowly return the leg to the start position, controlling the cable resistance.
Common mistakes
Leaning your torso to the opposite side, stealing work from the glute.
Letting the weight pull your leg back quickly, skipping negative tension.
Turning your toes upward, shifting the focus to your quads and hip flexors.
Breathing
Exhale as you lift your leg out to the side. Inhale as you control it back toward your standing leg.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
