Stability Ball Dumbbell Press

Stability Ball Dumbbell Press

Chest, Front Delts, Triceps, CoreDumbbells, Exercise Ball

The stability ball dumbbell press targets your chest and triceps while challenging your balance. Supporting yourself on an unstable ball forces your core and stabilizer muscles to fire.

How to do it

1Sit on the stability ball with dumbbells in hand, then carefully roll down until your back is on the ball, walking your feet forward.
2Position your upper back and shoulders on the ball, keeping your hips up and body in a straight line.
3Flare your elbows out at a 45-degree angle to your torso and hold the dumbbells at chest level.
4Press the dumbbells straight up over your chest.
5Slowly lower the dumbbells back down while keeping your hips stable and locked in place.

Common mistakes

Letting your hips sag, which deactivates your glutes and ruins your stability.
Flaring your elbows too wide, which places excessive stress on your shoulder joints.
Rushing the movement, causing you to wobble and lose balance on the ball.

Breathing

Inhale as you lower the dumbbells with control. Exhale as you press the weight up.

Make it harder or easier

If you struggle with balance, widen your stance or use lighter dumbbells.
To make it harder, bring your feet closer together to challenge your stability.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
