Sledgehammer Slam

Sledgehammer Slam

Lats, Obliques, Delts, ForearmsSledgehammer, Tire

Sledgehammer tire strikes develop core power, back strength, and shoulder endurance. Performed standing, bringing hands overhead with minimal axial loading.

How to do it

1Stand in front of the tire in a wide, stable stance, gripping the hammer with both hands.
2Arc the sledgehammer up and over your head in a wide motion.
3Slide your top hand down toward the hammer head for control.
4Drive the hammer down into the tire by violently flexing your core and driving through your back.
5Catch the rebound, reset your grip, and set up for the next strike.

Common mistakes

Striking with completely locked elbows, transferring harsh shock loads into your joints.
Losing control of the hammer on the rebound, risking injury.
Swinging in an off-center arc and twisting your lower back without engaging your abs.

Breathing

Inhale as you raise the sledgehammer overhead. Exhale forcefully as you slam it into the tire.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
