Sledgehammer Levering
ForearmsSledgehammer
Sledgehammer levering uses an offset weight to build massive wrist and forearm strength through controlled single-arm wrist motion.
How to do it
1Stand tall holding the sledgehammer shaft with one hand.
2Keep your arm at your side or bent at 90 degrees, locking your shoulder.
3Slowly tilt the hammerhead forward, sideways, or back using only your wrist.
4Lever the head back up to vertical using deliberate forearm power.
5Complete your reps, then switch hands.
Common mistakes
Gripping too far down the handle before building adequate wrist strength, risking a sprain.
Jerking or rushing the motion, losing control of the heavy hammerhead.
Using momentum from your shoulder or torso instead of isolating the wrist.
Breathing
Breathe naturally, exhaling as you drive the hammer back up to vertical.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, choke up closer to the hammerhead. To make it harder, grip at the very bottom of the handle.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
