Single-Leg Jump Rope
Calves, Quads, CoreJump Rope
Single-leg jump rope is a dynamic exercise that builds ankle and calf strength. It improves endurance, coordination, and core stability with minimal axial loading on the spine.
How to do it
1Grab the jump rope handles, stand tall, and lift one foot off the floor, balancing on your standing leg.
2Turn the rope using your wrists rather than swinging your whole arms.
3Take light, low jumps off the ball of your standing foot.
4Land softly with a slight knee bend to absorb the impact.
5Complete your target reps or time, then switch legs.
Common mistakes
Landing flat-footed or with a locked knee, transmitting harsh impact directly into your joints.
Jumping too high, which drains your stamina quickly and breaks your rhythm.
Leaning heavily to the standing side, throwing off your center of gravity.
Breathing
Keep your breathing steady and rhythmic, matched to your jumping tempo.
Make it harder or easier
To scale down, practice single-leg bounces without the rope. To make it harder, pick up the rope rotation speed.
