Single-Arm Push Press
Delts, Triceps, QuadsDumbbell or Kettlebell
A dynamic overhead press that uses leg drive to propel the weight overhead. It develops shoulder strength, triceps power, and full-body explosive coordination.
How to do it
1Stand tall holding a dumbbell or kettlebell at your shoulder, feet shoulder-width apart.
2Take a quick, controlled dip by bending your knees slightly while keeping your torso upright.
3Drive hard through your legs to transfer momentum upward, pressing the weight overhead into a locked-out arm.
4Lock out overhead stacked over your shoulder without arching your lower back.
5Lower the weight smoothly back to your shoulder and reset for the next rep.
Common mistakes
Arching your lower back as you drive the weight up, overloading your spine.
Pressing with your arm before your legs finish driving, losing the kinetic energy of the push press.
Leaning your torso forward during the dip, shifting load off your legs and onto your lower back.
Breathing
Inhale during the quick dip. Exhale forcefully as you drive the weight overhead.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, use a lighter weight or perform a strict press without leg drive.
To make it harder, use a kettlebell and increase your drive speed.
