Single-Arm Overhead Kettlebell Hold
Delts, Traps, CoreKettlebell
A static core and shoulder exercise where you hold a kettlebell overhead with one arm. It builds shoulder stability and reinforces lateral core control.
How to do it
1Clean and press or snatch the kettlebell overhead with one arm, locking out your elbow.
2Set your feet shoulder-width apart and brace your core tightly.
3Hold your arm stacked vertically over your shoulder joint, pulling your shoulder blade down away from your ear.
4Keep your torso completely upright without leaning to the side.
5When time is up, lower the weight to your shoulder under control, then down to the floor.
Common mistakes
Leaning your torso to the side to compensate for the weight, placing stress on your lower back.
Failing to fully lock out your elbow, overloading your triceps and shoulder joint.
Letting the kettlebell drift backward or outward instead of staying stacked over your shoulder.
Breathing
Breathe deeply and rhythmically throughout the hold—never hold your breath.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, use a lighter kettlebell or dumbbell.
To make it harder, perform the hold while walking slowly.
