Single-Arm Bottoms-Up Kettlebell Press

Single-Arm Bottoms-Up Kettlebell Press

Shoulders, Triceps, ForearmsKettlebell

A bottom-up kettlebell press that builds shoulders, triceps, and grip strength while demanding total control. Holding the kettlebell upside down forces your stabilizer muscles to work hard. The movement improves shoulder joint coordination and stability.

How to do it

1Stand tall with feet shoulder-width apart, holding the kettlebell by the handle so the bottom points straight up.
2Raise the kettlebell to your shoulder, keeping your elbow directly under the weight and forearm vertical.
3Brace your core and squeeze your glutes to establish a solid foundation.
4Exhale and smoothly press the kettlebell overhead without letting it tilt or rotate.
5Lock out at the top with a straight arm, avoiding hyperextension in the elbow.
6Slowly lower the kettlebell back to your shoulder, controlling its balance throughout.

Common mistakes

Relaxing your wrist, causing the kettlebell to flop sideways and risk falling.
Leaning your torso backward during the press, creating excess strain on your lower back.
Dropping the weight too quickly, losing movement control and risking a muscle pull.

Breathing

Inhale before starting the lift and exhale as you press overhead. Inhale smoothly as you return the kettlebell to your shoulder.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
