Single-Arm Decline Dumbbell Press
Lower Chest, Front Delts, Triceps, CoreDumbbell, Decline Bench
Single-arm decline dumbbell press targeting the lower pecs. The unilateral setup forces your abs and core to prevent body rotation, sharpening chest strength and shoulder girdle stability.
How to do it
1Hook your legs securely into the decline bench rollers and pick up a dumbbell in one hand.
2Lie back carefully and press the dumbbell straight up over your lower chest.
3Keep your free hand along your side or on your hip, keeping your shoulders and hips glued to the bench.
4Slowly lower the dumbbell to chest level, keeping your elbow at roughly a 45-degree angle.
5Press the dumbbell straight back up while keeping your body completely motionless.
6Complete your planned reps, then safely switch sides.
Common mistakes
Shifting or twisting your torso — reduces chest activation and strains your lower back.
Dropping the dumbbell quickly without control — risks damaging your shoulder joint.
Flaring your elbow wide outward — shifts tension onto your front delts instead of your chest.
Breathing
Inhale on the way down as you control the dumbbell. Exhale as you press the weight back up.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, pick a lighter dumbbell and hold onto the bench with your free hand.
To make it harder, slow down the lowering phase to 3–4 seconds.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
