Side Plank Leg Raise
Obliques, GlutesBodyweight
This exercise combines a side plank with a lateral leg lift. It directly targets the obliques and gluteus medius while strengthening the lateral chain and improving pelvic stability.
How to do it
1Lie on your side, prop yourself up on your bottom forearm directly under your shoulder, and extend both legs straight.
2Lift your hips to form a straight line from head to heels.
3Keep your core locked and lift your top leg slightly above hip height.
4Lower the leg back down with control without sagging in your shoulder or hips.
5Complete all reps on one side, then switch.
Common mistakes
Dropping the hips toward the floor, taking the work away from the obliques.
Rotating your chest or hips forward, losing the side-plank alignment.
Turning the top toes up toward the ceiling, which reduces gluteus medius involvement.
Breathing
Inhale as you lower your leg, exhale as you raise it.
