Serratus Push-Up
Serratus anteriorBodyweight
A horizontal push-up variation focusing on shoulder blade movement. Isolates the serratus anterior to keep the scapulae pinned against the rib cage.
How to do it
1Get into a top plank position on straight arms, forming a straight line from head to heels.
2Lock your elbows out completely and keep them locked for the entire set.
3Inhale and lower your chest under control, letting your shoulder blades collapse together toward your spine.
4Exhale and drive the floor away powerfully, spreading your shoulder blades as far apart as possible.
5Pause for a second at the top with your upper back rounded, then repeat.
Common mistakes
Bending your elbows and turning the exercise into a standard push-up.
Letting your hips and lower back sag due to poor core engagement.
Shrugging your shoulders up toward your ears as you push away from the floor.
Breathing
Inhale as your chest drops and your shoulder blades come together. Exhale as you drive your torso up and spread your shoulder blades.
