Seated Machine Shoulder Press

Seated Machine Shoulder Press

Front Delts, Side Delts, TricepsShoulder Press Machine

Isolates your delts and triceps safely inside a shoulder press machine. The fixed movement path lets you focus entirely on your shoulders with complete control.

How to do it

1Adjust the seat so the handles start at upper chest or shoulder level.
2Sit in the machine, press your back into the seat, and open up your chest.
3Grab the handles with your elbows stacked directly beneath your wrists.
4Press the handles up overhead by squeezing your shoulder muscles.
5Lower the handles back down smoothly, maintaining tension on your shoulders.

Common mistakes

Lifting your hips or back off the seat, compromising safety and taking tension off the delts.
Flaring your elbows backward, putting the shoulder joint in a bad angle.
Using momentum instead of controlled muscle effort to move the handles.

Breathing

Exhale as you press up. Inhale as you bring the handles back down.

Make it harder or easier

To simplify, pick a light weight and focus on smooth rhythm.
To challenge yourself, hold the weight at the top for 1–2 seconds on every rep.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
