Seated Towel Calf Stretch
CalvesChair, Towel
A towel-assisted stretch to restore elasticity in the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles after walking or running.
How to do it
1Sit on the edge of a chair, extend one leg out front with your heel on the floor.
2Loop a towel around the ball of your foot and hold the ends with both hands.
3Keep your back flat and gently pull the towel toward you, pulling your toes to your shin.
4Hold a comfortable stretch in your calf for 20–30 seconds.
5Ease off the tension and switch legs.
Common mistakes
Hunching your back to reach further — compromises tension control in the calf.
Jerking the towel — triggers a muscle spasm instead of a stretch.
Bending the working knee — reduces tension on the gastrocnemius.
Breathing
Breathe slowly and evenly, deepening the stretch slightly on every exhale.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
