Sandbag Squat

Sandbag Squat

LegsSandbag

Fundamental compound strength exercise using a sandbag to build leg and core power. Adds moderate axial load to increase total-body strength.

How to do it

1Hold the sandbag tightly against your chest or rack it across your shoulders.
2Set your feet slightly wider than shoulder-width with toes turned slightly out.
3Lower smoothly into a squat, sitting your hips back and tracking your knees over your toes.
4Squat down until your thighs are parallel to the floor, maintaining a neutral spine.
5Drive through your entire foot to return to standing, fully extending your legs.

Common mistakes

Rounding your back under the weight, placing dangerous pressure on your spine.
Letting your knees collapse inward as you stand up, straining knee ligaments.
Lifting your heels off the floor, shifting weight forward and ruining balance.

Breathing

Inhale smoothly as you lower down; exhale forcefully as you drive back up.

Make it harder or easier

To scale down, reduce the weight of the sandbag or limit your squat depth.
To scale up, pause for two full seconds at the bottom of every rep.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
