Rocking Squat Stretch
hip flexors, adductors, glutes, anklesBodyweight
A gentle mobilization movement to open up your hips and improve ankle mobility. Use it as a warm-up before squatting or as a standalone drill for lower-body flexibility. Regular practice makes deep squats more comfortable and stable.
How to do it
1Set your feet slightly wider than shoulder-width with toes turned slightly out.
2Drop into a deep squat as low as your flexibility allows, keeping your heels flat on the floor.
3Press your elbows against the inside of your knees and join your palms in front of your chest.
4Gently shift your weight from side to side in a small rocking motion.
5Keep your back as straight as possible—don't let your chest collapse or upper back round excessively.
Common mistakes
Letting your heels rise, which shifts stress to the knees and stops your ankles from mobilizing.
Excessive rounding of the back, losing posture control and hip-opening benefit.
Allowing your knees to cave inward, placing dangerous strain on the knee ligaments.
Breathing
Breathe deeply and rhythmically, exhaling at the peak stretch as you shift to the side.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, hold onto a sturdy anchor point in front of you.
To make it harder, hold the peak stretch on each side for two to three seconds.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
