Reverse-Grip Cable Triceps Pushdown

Reverse-Grip Cable Triceps Pushdown

TricepsCable Machine

Standing cable isolation exercise where you push down using an underhand grip. This grip places extra emphasis on the medial and lateral heads of the triceps while improving grip control.

How to do it

1Stand in front of the high cable block and grab the handle underhand, palms facing up.
2Pin your elbows to your sides and keep a soft bend in your knees for balance.
3Exhale as you push the handle down, keeping your elbows completely still.
4Lock out your arms at the bottom and squeeze your triceps hard.
5Inhale as you slowly bring your forearms back up until parallel to the floor.

Common mistakes

Letting your elbows shift forward or back, bringing your lats into the movement.
Bending your wrists excessively, creating dangerous wrist strain.
Using momentum or jerking your torso, taking work away from the triceps.

Breathing

Exhale on the way down; inhale as you control the handle back to the starting position.

Make it harder or easier

If your wrists feel uncomfortable, lower the weight; to make it harder, execute the pushdowns one arm at a time.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
