Resistance Band Push-Up

Chest, Front Delts, TricepsResistance band

A classic push-up variation where a resistance band adds extra tension at the top of the movement. This exercise strengthens your chest, front delts, and triceps, building both power and endurance.

How to do it

1Loop the band across your upper back and anchor the ends under your palms on the floor.
2Get into a plank position with your body in a straight line from head to toes.
3Bend your elbows and smoothly lower your chest toward the floor.
4Press yourself back up, fighting the increasing resistance of the band.
5Lock out the movement at the top without hyperextending your elbows.

Common mistakes

Letting the band slip down to your lower back, which ruins your form and positioning.
Letting your hips sag, which breaks the kinetic chain and reduces power transfer.
Jerking your head up as you press, which strains your neck.

Breathing

Inhale as you lower your body. Exhale on the effort as you push away from the floor.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, use a lighter band or perform the push-ups from your knees.
To make it harder, use a thicker, heavier resistance band.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
