Standing Resistance Band Hip Abduction
GlutesMini Loop Band
A standing isolation exercise targeting the gluteus medius to improve pelvic stability and walking mechanics. Worked one leg at a time.
How to do it
1Loop a mini-band around your calves and stand tall with feet hip-width apart.
2Shift your weight onto one leg, keeping a soft bend in the knee for balance.
3Smoothly kick the other leg straight out to the side, stretching the band.
4Pause for a second at peak contraction.
5Slowly return your leg, keeping tension on the band throughout.
Common mistakes
Leaning your torso to the opposite side — cheats the movement and unloads the glutes.
Turning your working toe outward — shifts target from glute medius to quad/hip flexor.
Letting the band snap your leg back — dumps control during the eccentric phase.
Breathing
Exhale as you kick out to the side; inhale as you control it back.
