Standing Resistance Band Chest Press
Chest, Front Delts, TricepsResistance band
A highly accessible standing exercise to target your chest and shoulders. It keeps constant tension on the muscles with minimal axial load on your spine.
How to do it
1Anchor the band to a sturdy post at chest height and stand facing away from it.
2Grab the handles, step forward to create tension, and adopt a stable, staggered stance.
3Bend your elbows to about 90 degrees, keeping them at chest level.
4Press your hands straight out in front of you, bringing them close together at the end.
5Slowly return to the starting position, resisting the pull of the band.
Common mistakes
Arching your lower back excessively during the press, shifting the load from your chest to your spine.
Shrugging your shoulders toward your ears, which overworks your neck and upper traps.
Letting the band snap your arms back without control, straining your shoulder joints.
Breathing
Inhale as you bring your hands back. Exhale as you press forward.
Make it harder or easier
To reduce the resistance, step closer to the anchor point.
To increase the difficulty, step further away or add a pause when your arms are fully extended.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
