Power Snatch

Power Snatch

Traps, Delts, Glutes, Quads, CoreBarbell

The power snatch builds explosive power, speed, and full-body coordination. It hits virtually every major muscle group from your legs up to your shoulder girdle.

How to do it

1Stand over the bar with your feet hip-width apart and take a wide snatch grip.
2Drop your hips, flatten your back, and brace your core tight.
3Drive through your legs to lift the bar, keeping it close to your shins and thighs.
4Fully extend your body, shrug, and pull yourself quickly under the bar.
5Catch the bar overhead with locked arms in a partial squat, then stand all the way up.

Common mistakes

Letting the bar drift away from your body, throwing off your balance and catch.
Rounding your back at the start, increasing injury risk to your spine.
Bending your arms before full hip extension, killing power from your lower body.
Unstable foot placement on the catch, causing loss of balance.

Breathing

Inhale at the bottom before pulling. Exhale after locking out the weight overhead.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, practice technique with a light technique bar.
To make it harder, gradually increase the weight while maintaining explosive speed.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
