Plyometric Lunges
LegsBodyweight
High-intensity plyometric exercise strengthening your legs and glutes with jumping foot switches. Builds explosive power and balance.
How to do it
1Step back into a classic lunge, bending both knees to 90 degrees.
2Explode upward off both feet simultaneously.
3Switch your leg positions while in mid-air.
4Land softly back into a lunge, instantly cushioning the impact with bent knees.
Common mistakes
Landing with locked, straight legs, transferring heavy impact onto your knees.
Letting your front knee cave inward, which causes instability and joint stress.
Banging your back knee into the floor at high speed.
Breathing
Inhale as you lower into the lunge; exhale forcefully as you explode upward.
Make it harder or easier
To scale down, perform standard stepping reverse lunges without the jump.
To scale up, jump higher or add a pause at the bottom of each lunge.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
