Weight Plate Press
Chest, Front DeltsWeight Plate
A shoulder and upper chest builder using a weight plate. Pressing the plate overhead improves lockout stability and strengthens core stabilizers. Great addition to any upper-body routine.
How to do it
1Stand tall with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a plate with both hands at chest level.
2Brace your core, straighten your back, and pull your shoulders down.
3Smoothly press the plate up and slightly forward until your arms are extended overhead.
4Hold for a second at the top without holding your breath.
5Lower the plate back to your chest under control along the same path.
Common mistakes
Arching your lower back as you press overhead, placing unwanted strain on your lumbar spine.
Tilting your head back during the press, straining your neck muscles.
Dropping the weight back down too fast, losing tension and control.
Breathing
Inhale before you press; exhale as you drive the weight overhead.
