Plate Press

Chest, Front Delts, TricepsWeight Plate, Flat Bench

Flat bench press variation performed by continuously squeezing a weight plate between your hands. The inward force focuses tension on the inner chest while engaging the shoulders and triceps across the full range.

How to do it

1Lie back on a flat bench, plant your feet on the floor, and hold a weight plate vertically on your chest.
2Squeeze the plate tightly between your palms, engaging your chest muscles.
3Exhale and press the plate straight up over your chest while squeezing inward continuously.
4Lock out at the top without relaxing inward pressure on the plate.
5Inhale as you lower the plate back down to your chest under control.

Common mistakes

Easing up on the inward squeeze, taking most of the target load off your chest.
Lifting your hips or arching your lower back excessively, losing control and stability.
Dropping the weight onto your chest too fast, losing tension and risking injury.

Breathing

Exhale as you press the plate up and inhale as you return it smoothly to your chest.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
