Weight Plate Snatch

Weight Plate Snatch

Shoulders, Traps, Lats, Quads, GlutesWeight plate

An explosive compound exercise using a bumper plate that hits your legs, glutes, back, and shoulders. Builds power and coordination.

How to do it

1Stand tall, gripping the sides of the plate with both hands at hip level.
2Dip down slightly by hinging at the hips, keeping your back flat.
3Explosively extend your legs and hips to drive the weight upward close to your body.
4Guide the plate overhead until arms are fully locked out.
5Pause overhead briefly with a tight core.
6Lower the plate back to hip level under control.

Common mistakes

Muscling the weight up with your arms without explosive leg drive.
Rounding your lower back during the dip.
Swinging the weight far away from your body in a wide arc.

Breathing

Exhale sharply during the explosive overhead drive, and inhale as you lower the plate.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
