Svend Press (weight plate)
Inner ChestWeight Plate
An isolation exercise that targets the inner chest. Performed at a controlled pace, it is excellent for developing mind-muscle connection and chest control.
How to do it
1Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding a weight plate with both hands at chest height.
2Squeeze the plate hard between your palms to create constant inward tension.
3Press your arms straight out in front of you, keeping the squeeze and maintaining tension in your chest.
4Pause briefly at the peak of the movement.
5Slowly pull the plate back to your chest while continuing to squeeze it from both sides.
Common mistakes
Easing up on the inward squeeze, which significantly reduces chest activation.
Leaning your torso back as you extend your arms, which strains your lower back.
Shrugging or rounding your shoulders forward, which ruins your alignment and path.
Breathing
Inhale as you pull the plate in. Exhale as you press the plate away.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, use a lighter weight plate.
To make it harder, hold the extension longer at the end of each rep.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
