Plate Pinch
ForearmsWeight Plates
A standing static hold to build pinch grip and forearm strength. Axial spine loading is minimal, making it suitable for all fitness levels.
How to do it
1Stand tall with a weight plate on the floor beside you.
2Pinch the top of the plate with your thumb on one side and your fingers on the other.
3Squeeze hard and stand up, holding the plate at your side with a straight arm.
4Maintain tall posture and hold for time, keeping the plate clear of your leg.
5Lower the plate back to the floor under control, bending slightly at your knees.
Common mistakes
Leaning your torso to one side, placing lateral stress on your spine.
Resting the plate against your leg or clothes for leverage.
Rounding your back while lifting or setting down the weight.
Breathing
Breathe smoothly and deeply throughout the hold—do not hold your breath.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, use a single lighter plate.
To make it harder, pinch two plates together with the smooth sides facing outward.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
