Plate Bicep Curl

Plate Bicep Curl

BicepsWeight Plate

A standing biceps isolation movement using a weight plate. The thick rim forces your forearms and grip muscles to work harder throughout the lift.

How to do it

1Stand straight with feet shoulder-width apart and grip the sides of a weight plate with both hands.
2Hold the plate down in front of you with your elbows tucked close to your torso.
3Exhale and curl the plate up toward your upper chest.
4Pause at the top for a moment to feel a full biceps contraction.
5Inhale as you smoothly lower the plate back to the starting position.

Common mistakes

Leaning back or swaying your torso to move the weight, placing stress on your lower back.
Flaring your elbows out to the sides, reducing isolation on the biceps.
Dropping the plate quickly instead of controlling the lowering phase, straining the elbow joints.

Breathing

Exhale as you curl the plate up, and inhale as you lower it down.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, use a smaller or lighter weight plate. To make it harder, add a 3-second pause at the midpoint of each rep.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
