Pinch Grip Deadlift

Pinch Grip Deadlift

Forearms, Back, LegsBarbell, Weight Plates

A pinch grip deadlift using bumper plates strengthens your fingers, forearms, back, and hamstrings, requiring serious total-body tension and grip control.

How to do it

1Set a weight plate vertically on the floor in front of you.
2Hinge at your hips with a flat back and a slight knee bend.
3Pinch the top of the plate with your thumb on one side and fingers on the other.
4Drive through your hips and glutes to stand tall, keeping the plate close.
5Lower the plate back to the floor under control with a neutral spine.

Common mistakes

Rounding your back as you lift, placing unsafe pressure on your spine.
Trying to yank the weight up with your arms instead of driving with your legs.
Using a plate that is too wide for your hand span, causing it to slip immediately.

Breathing

Inhale before you pull, then exhale as you reach full extension at the top.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, use a lighter or textured plate. To make it harder, pinch two smooth plates held together.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
