One-Arm Inverted Hang
Core, Shoulders, ForearmsPull-Up Bar
The single-arm inverted hang is an advanced gymnastics skill that builds core, shoulder girdle, and grip strength while demanding high concentration and balance.
How to do it
1Grip the bar with both hands and invert your body upside down into a vertical hang.
2Brace your core and glutes to stabilize your torso in a straight vertical line.
3Slowly shift your body weight over to one arm, locking down the working shoulder.
4Smoothly release your other hand and maintain balance through total body tension.
5Place your hand back on the bar and carefully lower yourself back down under control.
Common mistakes
Relaxing the supporting shoulder joint, which places dangerous stress on the ligaments.
Arching excessively in the lower back, reducing core control and straining the lumbar spine.
Releasing the second hand abruptly without stabilizing first, causing swinging and loss of balance.
Breathing
Breathe evenly without holding your breath, maintaining continuous tension throughout your core.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, master the two-arm inverted hang first or use a assistance band.
To make it harder, increase your hold time on one arm.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
