Offset Dumbbell Deadlift
Glutes, Hamstrings, Lower Back, CoreDumbbells
The offset deadlift uses uneven dumbbell weights or a single bell to challenge your glutes, hamstrings, and core. It corrects strength imbalances and trains your spine to resist twisting and leaning under uneven loads.
How to do it
1Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart, holding an uneven pair of dumbbells.
2Square your shoulders, brace your core, and keep your spine neutral.
3Push your hips back and hinge forward at the waist with a subtle bend in your knees.
4Lower the weights to about mid-shin level while keeping your shoulders perfectly level.
5Drive through your feet and squeeze your glutes and hamstrings to stand back up under control.
6Complete all reps on one side, then switch hands and repeat.
Common mistakes
Letting the shoulder drop on the heavier side, causing dangerous twisting in the lower back.
Rounding your back during the hinge, placing unsafe pressure on your spinal discs.
Shifting your hips to one side, ruining movement mechanics and reducing exercise efficiency.
Breathing
Inhale as you hinge forward at the hips. Exhale as you push through the floor to return to standing.
