Neutral-Grip Lat Pulldown

Lats, Biceps, ForearmsCable Machine

The neutral-grip lat pulldown strengthens your lats, biceps, and forearms. Facing your palms toward each other creates a natural movement path and takes stress off your shoulder joints. It is a key exercise for balanced upper-body development.

How to do it

1Adjust the thigh pads so your legs are locked in tight, then grab the attachment with a parallel grip.
2Sit tall, pull your shoulders down, and lean back slightly.
3Lead with your shoulder blades and pull the handle down to your upper chest.
4Pause briefly at the bottom, squeezing your back muscles hard.
5Smoothly guide the handle back up to the start position, fully extending your arms.

Common mistakes

Leaning back too far shifts load to your lower back and takes tension off the lats.
Curling with your wrists overloads your forearms and reduces back engagement.
Shrugging your shoulders at the bottom disengages your back and strains your neck.

Breathing

Exhale as you pull the handle down to your chest, and inhale as you let it return up.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, drop the weight and focus on driving with your shoulder blades.
To make it harder, pause and hold the bottom position for two seconds.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
