Multi-Hip Machine Abduction

Multi-Hip Machine Abduction

GlutesMulti-Hip Machine

Standing multi-hip machine leg abduction isolates the gluteus medius. It strengthens the outer thigh and stabilizes your pelvis for walking and running. Perform the movement one leg at a time.

How to do it

1Stand sideways to the machine and adjust the pad so it rests against your outer thigh.
2Grip the handles for balance and stand tall with a straight posture.
3Exhale and smoothly press your leg out to the side using your glute.
4Inhale and slowly lower your leg back down without letting the weight stack rest.
5Complete your reps, then switch legs.

Common mistakes

Leaning your torso away from the machine, which unloads the gluteus medius.
Swinging your leg with momentum instead of controlling the motion.
Turning your toes outward, shifting work from your glute to your quad.

Breathing

Exhale as you press your leg out to the side; inhale as you return to the start.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, drop the weight and focus on keeping your torso steady.
To make it harder, hold and squeeze for 1–2 seconds at the top of each rep.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
