Overhead Backward Medicine Ball Toss

Overhead Backward Medicine Ball Toss

Glutes, Quads, Triceps, Delts, BackMedicine Ball

The backward overhead medicine ball toss is a dynamic, full-body explosive movement. It engages the legs, glutes, back, shoulders, and arms to build multi-joint coordination.

How to do it

1Stand tall, holding the medicine ball with both hands at hip level.
2Dip into a quarter-squat, hinging your hips back with a straight back and slight forward lean.
3Explosively extend your legs and hips while swinging the ball up and overhead.
4Release the ball overhead at full body extension.
5Watch the ball's trajectory and return smoothly to your starting stance.

Common mistakes

Arching your lower back excessively instead of driving through your hips and legs.
Releasing too early using only your arms without leg drive.
Losing spatial awareness behind you during the throw.

Breathing

Inhale as you sink into the quarter-squat. Exhale forcefully at the moment of the throw.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
