Machine Crunch

AbsAb Crunch Machine

The machine crunch targets your rectus abdominis along a fixed movement path. It helps you master proper trunk flexion without putting axial load on your spine.

How to do it

1Adjust the seat so the machine's pivot point aligns with the bottom of your ribcage.
2Sit back firmly, plant your feet on the floor or footrests, and grab the handles.
3Brace your core and crunch your torso forward and down, rounding your upper back.
4Pause briefly at the bottom to squeeze your abs.
5Control the return to the starting position without letting the weight stack touch down.

Common mistakes

Pushing with your arms instead of flexing your abs, shifting load to your shoulders.
Pushing hard through your feet, which engages your hip flexors.
Letting the weight pull you back up too quickly instead of resisting it.

Breathing

Inhale before you start, and exhale as you crunch down.

Make it harder or easier

To make it easier, lighten the weight stack. To make it harder, slow down the movement and hold the peak contraction at the bottom.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
