Machine Biceps Curl

BicepsBiceps Machine

An isolation exercise on the machine for targeted bicep development. Locking your elbows in place eliminates body momentum, keeping strict tension on the target muscle. This move allows for safe control over your range of motion and effective muscle work.

How to do it

1Adjust the seat height so your armpits fit flush against the top of the pad.
2Grip the handles with an underhand grip and press your back and hips firmly against the seat.
3Exhale and smoothly curl the handles toward your shoulders without jerking.
4Pause at the top for one second, feeling the peak contraction in your biceps.
5Inhale and slowly lower the handles back down, stopping just short of locking out your elbows.

Common mistakes

Lifting your elbows off the pad during the curl, taking tension off the biceps.
Fully locking out your arms at the bottom, placing dangerous stress on your elbow joints.
Swinging your body and using momentum, reducing work on the target muscle.

Breathing

Exhale as you curl the weight up. Inhale as you smoothly guide the handles back to the start.

Make it harder or easier

Drop the weight and focus on a slow, controlled tempo to simplify.
Add a two-second pause at peak contraction to increase difficulty.

This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
