Machine Ab Crunch
AbsAb Machine
A machine isolation movement for the rectus abdominis performed seated. The guided movement path locks in direct tension on your abs with zero balance demands and minimal spine load.
How to do it
1Sit in the machine, press your lower back firmly into the pad, and grab the handles.
2Place your feet on the footrest or secure your shins under the leg rollers.
3Crunch your upper torso forward by driving the movement with your abs.
4Hold for a second at peak contraction at the bottom, flexing your abs hard.
5Return slowly to the start, keeping light tension on your core throughout.
Common mistakes
Pulling the handles down with your arms instead of flexing your abs.
Jerking your torso violently, reducing ab engagement and straining your back.
Completely relaxing your abs and hyperextending your lower back at the top.
Breathing
Exhale as you crunch down. Inhale as you slowly return to the top position.
Make it harder or easier
To make it easier, lower the weight on the stack.
To make it harder, hold a two-second pause at peak contraction.
This is general guidance, not a medical opinion. Listen to your body: if it hurts, stop. If you have an injury or a chronic condition, talk to a doctor first.
